Daniel and I just had the privilege of celebrating our 3rd anniversary by visiting the west coast of South Africa–a place where there are flowers that absolutely BLANKET the hills for just 2-3 weeks out of a year, creating a spectacular feast for the eyes and the soul.

The joy…the beauty…the majesty…the intricacy…as I filled my gaze with the carpets of beauty, I heard the whisper of Jesus…

“See how the flowers of the field grow.  They do not labor or spin.  Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.  If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more cloth you–you of little faith?  So not not worry….”  Matthew 6:28b-31a

“Do not worry…”–if we really took him seriously, really put into practice the lesson of the flowers, how different would our lives be.  The joy of the present would not be consumed by the concerns of the future.  Contentment would be the overflow of our souls, knowing that our Father knows and He WILL provide what we need.

So many things pull at our hearts these days– so many business concerns, political issues, family problems, health decisions, ministry desires…

In the midst of it all, I invite you to join me with Jesus through these photos to “consider the flowers…”

As you look at this beauty He created and the care that He gives the flowers that last for 2-3 weeks, may anxiety give way to thankfulness, worry to confidence in our Father’s provision and despair to the joy of knowing the love and care of our Father, the King.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”  I Peter 5:7
